  Du prêtre chantant au prêtre tourmenté : l’évolution des récits catholiques dans le cinéma américain Résumé (English):  This article traces the evolution of Catholic narratives in American cinema from the early 20th century to today. In Hollywood’s Golden Age, Catholic clergy – especially priests – were portrayed as heroic, virtuous figures, often serving as moral anchors and benevolent guardians (as seen in films like  Going My Way  and  The Bells of St. Mary’s ). Starting in the 1960s and especially by the 1970s, these idealized depictions gave way to more troubled and humanized characters: priests struggling with doubt, guilt, or even involved in scandal ( The Exorcist ’s crisis-stricken priest, or the disillusioned clergymen of later dramas).
